Love in a Backpack

Kids all over the world go hungry and don't have the proper love and affection at home that they deserve. Because of this, most kids only get to eat when they're at school and when it comes to the weekend, well, they just don't eat until Monday. However, a non profit organization based out of Louisville, Kentucky wanted to change that. They call it "Blessings in a Backpack" and it now feeds 87,000 kids in 45 different states! The organization is ran by different volunteers from every state!

Many families in the U.S have to make the decision of paying their rent or feeding their children, and I can't even begin to imagine how hard of a decision that could be. No matter what you choose the outcome is terrible.

They started this fundraiser for this on Valentines day of 2013, they gave their first 42 bags away to children in 3 different schools and every year that numbers grows even larger.

In Atlanta, they started this program last year. They state that every bag they create for a child has a very heavy emotional weight. They have gotten a lot of feedback from the children themselves. The kids have told them that when people they don't even know does something like this it shows them that the community out there cares about them. In every bag of food they give away they add a hand written note to the child, something that will hopefully inspire them and keep them with a positive outlook on life.

By doing this they have really noticed a difference in the children, for the kids who receive backpacks they have a 100% attendance rate in Atlanta. They hope to inspire kids with these backpacks and they hope to get them involved in their communities.

Every child deserves a giant bag filled to the brim with love.

This story is truly amazing but also very hard to hear. It breaks my heart to know that children go all weekend without a meal and are only fed while at school. This organization has really impacted thousands of children from across the country. Such an inspiration and a beautiful act.Today, look for those around you who seem to be struggling and lend a hand. Help those in need no matter how small the act is. Be an inspiration to those around you.
