Since 2003, none of the federal criminals sitting on death row have been put to death. Today, the Trump administration have announce they will be resuming the executions once again. They will be starting with 5 men all convicted of terrible crimes.
The first man is Lezmond Mitchell, he is a 37 year old man who was convicted in 2003 in Navajo Nation in Arizona. He and a friend were hitchhiking near the New Mexico
border when a 63 year old grandmother and her granddaughter picked them up. Lezmond and his friend then stabbed the grandmother to death and drove another 30-40 miles forcing the granddaughter to sit besides her grandmothers lifeless body. After they drove for a while they ended up killing the granddaughter as well and then later used the truck in a robbery in New Mexico. The jury sentenced him to the death penalty. His execution is scheduled for December 11th.
The second man is Wesley Purkey who so 67 years old. In 1998 he kidnapped a 16 year old girl, raped her and murdered her. After he dismembered and burned her body. But before that even happened he was charged and arrested for the murder of an 80 year old woman that he killed with a hammer. When he was arrested for this he began to tell the court about the teenagers death as well which landed him the death penalty. His execution is scheduled for December 13th.
The third man is Daniel Lee, who is 46 years old. Daniel is a white supremacist from Okalahoma, who was convicted in 1999 for murdering a gun deal, his wife, and his 8 year old daughter. In 1996, Daniel and his friend Chevie Kehoe broke into the family's home in Tilly, Arkansas, where they suffocated the whole family and dumped their bodies into the Illinois Bayou. He is known as the "Cyclops" after he lost his eye in a bar fight. His execution is scheduled for December 9th.
The fourth man is Alfred Bourgeois, who is 55 years old. He was sentenced the death penalty in 2004. Alfred was charged with murdering his 2 year old daughter, after he staged a fall in a parking lot. After the autopsy they found more than 300 injuries on the child's body and none were constant with a fall. After his trial 8 other people who were close to Alfred spoke out saying that he threatened and assaulting them. They also stated that he was repeatedly beating and torturing his daughter in the months before her death in 2002. His execution is scheduled for January 13th.
The last man is Dustin Honken, who is 51 years old. He is from Mason City, Iowa and in 1993 he and his girlfriend murdered 5 people. His girlfriend used to be one of only 2 women on federal death row. Dustin was knows as the kingpin of his methamphetamine operation. He shot and killed fellow drug dealers, one of their girlfriends and one of the men's two daughters who were 6 and 10 years old. Later into their investigation they discovered that the 2 men he killed were planning on testifying against him, and this would be the motive for the murders. His execution is scheduled for January 15th.
Now this story is a little more glum than the others I've done before. But I had to share this. People live on death row for years just waiting their death which sometimes never comes. I know there are differences of opinion on whether the death penalty is good or not. I thought their stories were very intriguing and that most of you might be interesting his hearing about them. It's amazing how many of these horrible acts happen in the world. Murders, rapists, psychopaths, and all the above live around us all the time. Such a terrifying thought that hopefully it just makes you all think. Be aware of your surroundings, be careful when go out alone, watch for people who look uncomfortable or look as if they're calling for help in a crowd. Keep yourself and those around you safe from the dangers of our world.
